Jehovahs Witnesses and Marijuana

The JW rules on drugs make no fucking sense.
I get that they would prohibit something that's illegal, but otherwise it's really weird.
There's a few reasons why they 'just say no'
-Harmful effects on the body. Ok, I get that, but why are painkillers ok? Or eating unhealthy foods?
-DEMONIC POSSESSION!!! This is just absurd. First because they aren't real. Even if they were real, and could enter your mind, why is it ok to take drugs if you have a prescription? Does a demon check your wallet for your medical marijuana card? Does he check your local pharmacy to see if you have a prescription for vicodin?
hahaha it makes no goddamn sense.

The uptake...
by Thisismein1972 inwith recent events pointing at watchtower growth, i felt compelled to say a few words.. if the figures turn out to be true, then we should not be discouraged.
after 9/11 there was a surge in, not only the watchtower, but other demonisation of organised religion.
whenever there is a a paradigm shifting event that puts fear into others, this tends to have a life changing affect on an individual.. now let us zoom to the present.

How'd the growth in spanish language areas in the US? I know for a while that shit was off the scales and now they are consolidating congregations.

How about prayers being used as a talk?
by NikL inanother thread on here made me think of it.. its a personal peeve of mine.. you bow your head in prayer and the brother says thinks like thank you for the lessons we learned today like bla bla bla and for that wonderful point about yadda yadda yadda.
jehovah we know that etc etc etc therefore we must...well you get the gist.and on and on it goes.
absolutely drives me mad..

I hated when that would happen. A prayer isn't a soapbox, bro. There's been lots of reminds on that in the KM and other stuff. Keep prayers to under a minute.
The worst were at Bethel. Holy shit. For some brothers, that's the first time they've ever been able to do something in front of the whole bethel family, so the prayers would go on and on and on and on and on and on and on. Fuck you man. I've got like 10 minutes to eat and get to work.

sir82 is correct. It depends on your seniority, position at Bethel, and all the other usual factors. If you're a grunt, they don't give a fuck about your health. I was there for 2 years and change. I had one dental cleaning and never had an eye exam there. So even routine stuff gets neglected.

Unfortunately there's been a lot of false stories circulating post-election. It's on both sides too. Supposed racists doing crazy shit and stories of democrats/liberals doing crazy stuff too.

Another Outright Lie Published 2/17 WT
by LostGeneration inthis info is from the article "who is leading god's people today" feb 17 study edition.. to help them disseminate bible truth in various languages, zion’s watch tower tract society was legally incorporated in 1884, with brother russell as president.
* he was an outstanding student of the bible, and he fearlessly exposed as false such doctrines as the trinity and the immortality of the soul.
he discerned that christ would return invisibly and that “the appointed times of the nations” would end in 1914.. pretty sickening article overall about how badass the gb is, though this little gem is printed as well, paragraph 12. the governing body is neither inspired nor infallible.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses view the governing body differently since seeing them on the TV?
by jambon1 ini think this may be a bigger issue for the society than we realise.. when you consider that witnesses have now had well over a year of regularly seeing their 'channel to god' with their own eyes, what do you think they're thinking?.
i'm going to put this as respectfully as i can; these men are clearly a bunch of utter clowns who are laughably inadequate to present a tv show, but also, they are now ridiculously discredited due to the absolute shite that they've spoken in these laughable productions.. consider things from a jw's perspective; tony morris, stephen lett & geoffrey jackson are 'the channel' that makes their religion 'special'.
these men are the channel god is using to lead his people in the modern day.

It's absolutely had an effect. For years the majority of JWs would have never seen the GB except for a video clip or if they were 'lucky' enough to get a member at a convention or assembly. Unless you were a Bethelite or in some other full time service, you'd never see them.
Now the rank and file see them all the time and talk about them a lot more. They describe them almost like reality TV stars, discussing things they said and their personalities. They're basically celebs now.
For the rank and file, they eat this shit up. They talk about them all the time even in casual conversation. For those out or doubting is has the opposite effect, proving that it really is just a man made organization.

Judical committee flaws
by Chook inif an elder sitting in a jc has a secret sin of a serious nature, his rulings that took place while this sin was unknown are still binding.
in a court of law of most countries that would be a grounds for appeal.
regardless i know they are kangaroo courts ,where anyone who has any biblical knowledge knows they can't back up a scriptural reference for a three man tribunal.

You bring up a good point. JW doctrine says that someone hiding a secret sin can impede the flow of holy spirit in a family or even a congregation. An elder hiding something would impede the holy spirit's operation during a meeting or any sort of judicial proceedings.
